Paige Howell

Curriculum Vitae

Paige Howell studied Medical Science at the University of New South Wales. In 2015, she completed a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney and was awarded the Dean’s Scholar Award for academic merit. Paige then gained four years of clinical experience working as an accredited Exercise Physiologist with a primary focus on breaking the cycle of deconditioning in Cerebral Palsy patients. In 2020 she relocated to Zürich, where she completed a master’s in Health Sciences and Technology at ETH. She joined the Neural Control of Movement lab for her master’s thesis, where she investigated the role of the brainstem as a potential hub for neuroplasticity following spinal cord injury. In January 2023, Paige began her new role as a PhD student at the Neural Control of Movement lab, continuing her research into neuroplasticity.

Research Interests

The human brain may reorganise following an injury to the central nervous system. This reorganisation has been linked to clinical outcomes in patients, including recovery of function and chronic pain. Paige is interested in the mechanisms behind this neural reorganisation and how the brain and body are affected by such change. For her PhD project, she will utilise Magnetic Resonance Imagining as a non-invasive tool to probe structural and functional changes in the brain and compare these changes with clinical outcomes.
