Xue Zhang

Xue Zhang oversees human research ethics and clinical trial management in the NCM and BBR Labs at ETH Zurich. She holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy from KU Leuven (cum laude), where she investigated neuroplasticity and motor recovery after stroke under the supervision of Prof. Nicole Wenderoth. She recently completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Digital Clinical Trials at ETH Zurich, holds a BSc in Physiotherapy from the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and has Bachelor degree in Nursing from China Medical University, Shenyang. With over a decade of experience in clinical research, she has expertise in study design, trial coordination, and regulatory compliance. Xue has a unique profile that combines clinical practice as a nurse and physiotherapist with deep knowledge in neurorehabilitation research, research ethics, and digital health methodologies. She has worked extensively across European and Chinese academic and clinical settings.
Research interests
Xue’s research focuses on translating fundamental neuroscience into effective rehabilitation strategies for stroke survivors. She is particularly interested in developing scalable, evidence-based interventions that can improve upper-limb motor recovery across clinical and home settings. Her work bridges neurostimulation (tDCS, TMS) and digital health technologies to address inequities in access to rehabilitation. She is also actively involved in advancing ethical frameworks for decentralized clinical trials and AI-assisted research, aiming to ensure that innovation in rehabilitation is both scientifically rigorous and patient-centered.
